"We face a pivotal moment in our American experiment that demands bold progressive action to meet the challenges of the present. Our great nation is built on the promise of progress, on the principle of equality, and on the passion for justice."

ABOUT JAMIE

Since moving to Utah almost a decade ago, Jamie has dedicated her career to helping others in our district find their voice in our society and their opportunity in our economy. As a debate coach, she taught college students how to become better advocates and as a Licensed Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, she has helped many of the most vulnerable populations find greater independence through gainful and fulfilling employment.

She lives in Weber County and works in Box Elder and Cache counties, which gives her the unique privilege of connecting with folks all over our district. She understands the needs of the people of our district because she works for them every single day.

WHAT WE FIGHT FOR

"I’m running because Utah Deserves Better than corporate-apologist politicians working on behalf of a tiny, wealthy, elite. Gerrymandering and voter suppression have lulled too many into political apathy. It has made our elected officials unaccountable to the people and impervious to public sentiment. It is time for new thinking from a new generation of leaders. As your representative, I will advocate for your access to healthcare and a living wage; I will work hard to preserve your right to fair elections and a sustainable future; and I will fight to lift the burdens of student loan debt and rising tuition rates that impede social mobility and economic opportunity for all."

FAIR PAY FOR FAIR WORK

Working and middle-class wages in America have been stagnant for decades, while worker productivity has skyrocketed. The federal minimum wage has not been raised in 10 years, and many people today have to work 2 or more jobs to keep themselves and their families from falling into poverty. It’s time to raise the minimum wage to a living wage and expand economic opportunity for those whom our economy has left behind.

END GERRYMANDERING/VOTER SUPPRESSION

HEALTHCARE AS A HUMAN RIGHT

The healthcare system in our country is fundamentally broken. Insurance and pharmaceutical companies price-gouge families and individuals for life-saving treatment and medicine, while simultaneously raking in billions of dollars in profits. We must ensure that every person in this country has the healthcare coverage they need, and we must end the greed and profiteering of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

MAKE COLLEGE TUITION-FREE

Fifty years ago, paying for college by working a part-time job while going to school was a possibility in this country. Today, it simply isn’t. Rising tuition rates inhibit the ability of more and more people to earn a higher education and enter into a career field where they can succeed, further perpetuating the cycle of poverty. In order to build a more sustainable economy and workforce and lift millions of people out of poverty, we must make public colleges and universities tuition-free.

FORGIVE STUDENT LOAN DEBT

America is currently drowning in $1.5 trillion of student loan debt, an average of $37,000 per student, and it has increased 170% over the last decade. Student debt keeps graduates from buying homes, starting businesses, and putting down economic roots in their communities, and it hinders our country’s economic growth. We must forgive student debt and move forward to an era where it isn’t necessary for Americans to take out tens of thousands of dollars in loans to get a degree.

FIGHT FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

It is long past time for us as a nation to take action to address the climate crisis. We need to create an economy that incentivizes renewable energy and sustainability and penalizes practices that harm our environment in favor of pure profit. As residents of a state with some of the worst air quality in the country, we must also do everything possible to promote practices and technology which will keep our air clean.

Gerrymandering and voter suppression are tactics used by both political parties to maintain hold on power and override the will of the people. These practices must end. The keystone of our system of government is the right of the people to choose their leaders, not the other way around. Political districts should be drawn by independent, non-partisan commissions, and our leaders should make it easier, not harder, for people to vote.
